I will be playing as part of the Strange Attractor project this Wednesday from 1-2pm in Cork. The location is the beautiful first floor of the Crawford Art Gallery. I will be improvising with Danny Mc Carthy, Irene Murphy and Mick O'Shea, who played as part of a larger configuration on 2 April. I was very taken by their work on that occasion and am thrilled that I get to create with them!
Admission is free, and while you are in Cork you can check out the installations that are in place as part of the Just Listen festival.
I plan on using the hidden sounds implicit in the gallery, creating structures in time that play with ideas of memory and forgetting. In preparation I have watched, once more and not for the last time, Last Year At Marienbad. (Appreciation here.)

As it turned out I didn't follow up on the ideas noted above, but perhaps because of that the session was great! I limited myself to the sounds made by my laptop and its immediate surroundings, which meant micing up the table I was using, the camera I had sitting waiting, and so on. I applied induction coils to my small digital recorder, put a mic to my throat and even "stole" some sounds from Danny and Mick. It was great fun and I came up with many sound combinations I could not have anticipated.
I thank the Quiet Club for their invitation and look forward to the next time!
