Review of Annihilation (dir. Alex Garland, 2018) in the form of an interrogation.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE ITS FORM?
No, not really. I mean, it's rather conventional.
IS IT CARBON-BASED?
I don't think so. It takes many shapes, all tantalising, but none substantive.
WHAT DID YOU SEE?
A doubling of form. A repetition of everything we have already seen.
IS IT INTELLIGENT
No, I don't think so. It's only caricature, an imitation. Everything reduced to surface.
WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?
I don't think it has one. To present certain images.
HOW DID YOU GET BACK HERE?
Well, eventually it stopped making sense at all. And then it just stopped.
HOW DID YOU GET THAT TATTOO ON YOUR ARM?
Please, don't mention the tattoo.
