The famed HD25-1 II are now sold as Sennheiser HD-25 Plus. At least I assume they are the same design. Current European price is €189. Meanwhile my preferred Beyerdynamic Tesla DT 1350 are no longer manufactured. It seems that the company have no replacement model for field work. robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08743788064455642852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14307486.post-33033810051083013042019-10-03T20:24:31.131+01:002019-10-03T20:24:31.131+01:00Currently using the AKG K-712 Pro, which are a sli...Currently using the AKG K-712 Pro, which are a slightly improved K-701. Since I have an RME sound card I have absolutely no use for one. RME claim that their stereo headphone jack is the best output on the device... and you might indeed go so far as to wire up a cable from the headphone out to your main monitors! When I listen off my laptop or other devices I am happy enough with the output as is... though perhaps not for the most critical listening.

One fact: High impedance headphones benefit most from a proper amp with high current throughput. If you already have a high quality D/A you are likely OK with what you already have. If your D/A leaves something to be desired, or you use the normal 3.5mm jack out from your dedicated sound card, then a headphone amp may be just the ticket. robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08743788064455642852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14307486.post-54275624098717964422015-06-25T16:42:42.604+01:002015-06-25T16:42:42.604+01:00Great article, Robin. These provide a fair degree of isolation and seems to track impulses efficiently. There is absolutely no problem with the bass on my composition. Fair balance overall on Rush, with a bit of mid boxiness that one expects from closed cans. The treble could be better. This results in a sound that is a bit too "full" for mixing, IMO. Sounds very nice for music listening however! I prefer the more recessed mids on the AKG 271, but that could be because I am used to them. The Sonys are good value if you can get them significantly cheaper than the AKG set, which you can in the USA. In Europe I'd prefer the AKGs for the same price. They have the switch-off magic. Plus they look nicer!
robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08743788064455642852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14307486.post-54424564501170024242014-02-04T14:12:54.697+00:002014-02-04T14:12:54.697+00:00If you REALLY can't spend €145 you can get a t...If you REALLY can't spend €145 you can get a taste of the same level of quality with the AKG K141 Mk II at €105 from Thomann... and maybe cheaper elsewhere. The fit and accessories are the same. The K271 is very much worth the €40 difference for what you gain in sound quality. But the K141 is better than earbuds.
